It has been 3 months since I was officially voted on to be the Student Pastor at the church I now serve at. My wife and I have prayed for the right open door for a year and God gave it to us. In just these short few months that I have been in vocational ministry, God has begun a work in my heart. He has taught me what it means to be teachable, willing, humble and a servant. I know that I have so much to learn in ministry and I always will, but there is one major item that I have discovered over these few months that I feel burdened to share with you:
I know nothing about the ministry…
“WHAT?! Did this guy just say that he knows nothing? Why in the world is he doing it?!”
Yes, I did say I know nothing.
I know nothing…except Jesus.
You see, Jesus is all I have to give. You see, Jesus, is all that our world needs. The world in which we live, is going down the drain. Let’s face it, unless REVIVAL comes, our nation is already down the pipes of that drain, never to return to the things of God. We must approach people with the only thing that is going to save them from an eternal Hell…Salvation in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Many of us (Christians) today are approaching people with a lack of the greatest need. We are trying to dress in certain ways to draw them in. We are attempting to act like them so that they will feel comfortable and not offended. The idea of separation from the world is a lacking topic in our Bible Studies and Christian circles. We must be in the world, but not of the world. When it comes to reaching people, we have all we need…in Jesus.
What has driven this point home for me is what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:2, “For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified” (NASB). Paul, among the Corinthians, was striving for nothing else but Jesus. If we are to reach people, that is what we must be all about.
As I am walking in the stores and down the streets of my city, all I see are people in so much need of Jesus!! Nothing will satisfy their souls apart from Jesus. Let us be able to say, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” (NASB). Let’s go into our neighborhoods and cities and give people the only thing that we have to give…JESUS!
I know, some may say, “Well, you do not know anything; you have only been in the ministry for 3 months.”
My response: “You’re right, I do know nothing…except Jesus.”
